Joseph Bontempo Obituary, Death – We are saddened by the passing of our 69-year-old husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend Joseph Edward Bontempo. He was a kind, loving, and selfless man. Born into life and eternal life on July 2, 1954, and December 6, 2023. Jasper and Lottie (Mierczak) gave birth to Joe. He has two siblings and was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Joe’s first concern was family. Joe wanted to become a police officer after graduating from Taft High School, but his mother said it was too dangerous, so he gave up on that dream.

Joe made some of his closest friends before he passed away by working hard for 36 years at WW Grainger, where he accepted a safer position. Joe first met LaVerne Sutherland at Classic Bowl in Morton Grove in 1976 through his brother, who is now his wife. After getting married in 1978, they enjoyed 45 wonderful years together. Anthony was reared with love by Joe and LaVerne. Joe’s greatest joy was witnessing Tony flourish and lead his several sports due to their strong familial bonds.

When Kelly and Joe got married in 2011, Joe was happy to spend his birthday with his son and daughter-in-law. Joe was most proud of his grandchildren, Guy, Francesca, and Giorgia. He went to all of their school functions, games, and celebrations. They brought light into his life. Joe was devoted to his large family and many friends; he was kind and loving. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins survive him, along with his cherished wife LaVerne Bontempo, son Anthony Bontempo, daughter-in-law Kelly Bontempo, granddaughters Francesca, Giorgia, and Guy Bontempo, brother Jay (Carrie) Bontempo, sister Donna (Larry) Roth, and numerous other family members.

Joe was predeceased by his mother Lottie Bontempo, father Jasper Bontempo, and aunts Josephine and Clara Mierczak. On Monday, December 11, from 3 to 9 p.m., Cumberland Chapels (FRIEL FUNERAL DIRECTORS), located at 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, will be open for visiting. Funeral Services Commence at the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. and proceed to St. Paul of the Cross Church in Park Ridge. Funeral mass at 12:30 and interment at St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles.
